New version (3.1) of ChessComposer (an app for smartphones)!

logo(22.07.2014) I am proud to announce that the new version 3.1 of ChessComposer (an app for Android OS smartphones and tablets) is now available! There are many improvements, but the most important new feature is the SOLVING option! So - download your FREE version and start composing EVERYTIME and EVERYWHERE directly on your phone!

Now all that you need to compose chess problems, to share them, to create diagrams or your own mobile chess problem database is here and can be in your smartphone (or tablet)!

 

To solve a problem just open the Main Menu and press the Side Menu button. Then select the settings: stipulation, number of moves and fairy condition if it is needed and press Apply.

You can use the following pieces:

With the FREE version you can compose and solve directmates, helpmates, selfmates and help-selfmates in 2 to 3 moves (including fairy pieces). You can use also some fairy conditions – Take & Make, Anti Take & Make and KoBul Kings.

The full version have some more features – can solve up to 4 moves (including stalemate problems) and can use more than 20 fairy conditions.

According your wishes the app can generate Popeye text input file from the diagram and via internet connection send it to the server with the program and receives back the solution automatic. All this happens extremely fast so you will not wait so long to see the solution. Well, to protect the server from overwork there are some limits: in the free version you can see maximum 6 solutions and the solving time is maximum 30 sec. For the full version the maximum solutions are 8 and the maximum solving time is 120 sec.

Fails to install the FREE version.
OS reports that an error occured during the syntax analisis of the package.

Hm... The app works fine, we tested it with several phones. Did you uninstall the old files before to dowload now? Probably the problem is because your Android version is very old (ver 2), it is recomendable to be min version 3 (see the manual).

Well, when we started the ChessComposer project its first version running also on Android OS version 2 (even with some limits), but newest versions of the app need Adroid OS minimum v3.
Vitaly, this is another good reason to buy new phone ;-)

"This is a big improvement to the application... I downloaded the free version of ChessComposer for the first time, to see how it works with the Ankona server, and it does work very well. I did not try to solve longer problems, that require more than a couple of minutes to test, but for 80-90% of the cases, 2 minutes should be enough time."

I thank all composers which sent me feedbacks!! This help us a lot and now we start working on new even more improved version with new features (such as visualisation of the solution, new stipulations, new size for chess board and pieces, drag and drop function, better view of the settings menu etc.)!

We will be thankful to all of you who send us ideas or wishes, so please share your opinion here or by my email. This help us to improve the app.

Also - I still received very few feedbacks from the composers using the free version. Please tell us is it useful to you and what more you wish, because I don't know how many people using it and what more they need.

i just tried the free version on my 10" tablet, android 4.2.2 - could enter the position & solve. However, after solving I got a clean diagram and when I tried to load the saved position the program crashed. More comments: 1) on the 10" screen the diagram is nicely large but the pieces very small on it. 2) it would be a good feature to be able to move the pieces on the board, it will make composing much easier. I am looking for a program exactly like this that we obviate the need for a magnetic travel chess set. It is not there yet.

Dear Paz, My main target was to create a chess composing app for smartphones, because they are always with us. That's why our main work is to them, not to the tablets. I know that on some big tablets screens the pieces looks so small and we will improve this after finish with the main features of the app (probably in version 4) and then all will looks fine even in big tablet screens.
By the way - even now you can select smaller size diagram from the settings of the app and the diagrams will look better.
About drag / drop function of a piece - we will include this in the new version (together with many new improvements).
P.S. If the position dissapear after saving it or solve it - just touch the diagram and it will appear again. About "when I tried to load the saved position the program crashed" - hm, this should not happen. Try to uninstall and install again the app. I will see it and will give you more hints when we meet in Bern.
