Very interesting cyclic and reciprocal play. One of the original helpmate ideas I have seen in recent times.

Oh, that's a wonderful idea, to combine reciprocal captures of three pairs of pieces (with one black and one white capture in each solution) with a cyclic Zilahi (because the white captures are mating). Is the idea new?

One could of course regret that two of mates are models but not the third one, and even more the repetition of Bxc4 as an unthematic move. But I suppose the matrix wouldn't allow anything else.

Model mates would be a bonus but not thematically needed in such combination of cyclic and reciprocal features. The repeated Bxc4 attacks d5&e6 in 2 phases. Without a changed purpose, a repeated move is not only a "small weakness". But the cyclic shift of functions in the mechanism (sacrifice, guard, mate) shows a thematic difference between the attacks on e6 in 1st/ 3rd solution. So the repetition might be considered as only "unpleasant". The idea is indeed very interesting and some unavoidable compromises in the realization could be tolerated. The subtlety/esthetics of the motivations for the play appear as rather irrelevant in recent times. What could be more ugly and banal motivation for a white move than a brutal annihilation of a black piece which prevents the mate? It is ugly even in direct problems, but somehow the moves like wPb4xbSa5 have become quite a standard in helpmates. If I can't realize an idea without butchering my helper, perhaps the idea is not so nice after all.
