Problem 438: C.G.S. Narayanan - Threemover
narayanan(07.09.2014) Welcome to C.G.S.Narayanan - the Indian maestro and winner of the three-mover section of the 9-WCCT. His beautiful problem shows a black knight corrections, dual avoidance and quiet play!

 1...S any (Se2) 2.Qxd6+ Bxd6 3.Rxd6#
 1...Sd5! 2.Sc1 [2.Rc1?] ~ 3.Sb3#
 1...Se6! 2.Rc1 [2.Sc1?] (3.Rc4#), 2... d5 3.Qxe5#
 1...Sg6!! 2.Qf7 [2.Sc1? 2.Rc1?] (3.Qd5/Qc4#) 2...d5 3.Qxd5#, 2...Se7/f4 3.Qc4#

The composer'a favorite theme is Quarternary black correction. But he tells me that this is not one such example as the first two are both secondary corrections with dual avoidance effect, and the third correction is tertiary, correcting the primary and secondary error. Technicalities aside, enjoy the excellent interference effects on the black bishop. (Seetharaman)

I looked at the problem, it's good even despite, at first glance, the rude 1st move with a capture. I think 1st move only complicates the solution to a solver. I wish succes.

Yes. The only weak point of the problem is the key. We could not find a way to improve it! But the content more than makes up for it! Narayanan has worked magic with the play.

I agree with you Seetharaman.
The quoted comment is not mine but a translation of Elmar's comment.
