Petko, I was inspired by your hs#3 therefore I have marked my problem "after X" I've already admitted that my problem is not an improvement of yours, it is a reworking that implements other ideas (I have mentioned some). As far as I understand, the main purpose of publication your article (mentioned in this discussion) in the magazine "Ural problemist" was to captivate Russian composers with the genre of sh#. Me and Alexey are captivated. I suppose this fact is much more significant that your prizewinning chess puzzle. So, please, don't be so rigorous - don't chill us!

I never marked the 4+5 version as an improvement. It is only a lightweight version: more economical, more simple about the strategic comment and anticipated, of course.I will never send in a competition. Moreover 1..., Bf6 is not a pure Bristol; in my opinion this is a flaw. Sharing versions, points of view, any comments with fiends is not a crime. From my point of view, in the original the bS does not perform the bivalve theme: after 3.Qe4/Qe6 the wR loses all power on the black lines and 3...., Sxe4/Sxe6# are not exactly line obstructions. In my view it is the wQ who performs the theme, opening black lines and interfering with the wR. I think it is an amusing adaptation of the theme to the HS genre. THe Bristol theme has an appreciable visual impact but most of the time does not have a significant strategic content, therefore adding the bivalve play fills a gap in the solution (otherwise rather mechanical except for the W1).

GM PAP: As this discussion has emerged as a "perpetum mobile", I can recommend: Before publication of your "After X",better is to analyze more attentively! About the new "improvement" of Rodolfo Riva:#34 Rodolfo Riva : 8/1S4R1/1rk5/8/8/2b2s2/1Qr5/1K6 (4+5) HS3# 2 sol. Again missing (in all solutions) closings of the white Rook from the black S, that closes a white R - line but opens the black battery line – BIVALVE – THEME! Why you eliminate this theme? As an "improvement" is estimated from Alexey his scheme with 3 sol. in which my main thematic elements are ignored, the position is rather bad and the 3rd solution with two non-thematic captures on e5 and f4 is just awful! I my just 60 years practice I do not have even one publication "After X"! In my opinion it's a vicious way to your mastery, It's only a way to plagiarism! Publish only your own ideas! It is very helpful to comment alien problems textually but keep your "versions" as "workouts at home"!

OK, I understand! "Intuitionalists" don't even have to know the chess rules before the "final phase". Actually they don't have to know and understand anything and still they can discuss. That fact is so very obvious, I'll shut up.

Exactly! There are two types of chess composers (as well as chess players) - intuitionalists and analysts. I definitely belong to the first type. But as a judge I use the LOGOS more intensively.

Yes, sure! You intuitively put some pieces on the board, and that's it, you don't care why. Only in the final stage you analyze what could be the infinitesimal purpose of putting a certain piece.

Nikola, maybe sometime I will try myself at WCSC but now I prefer to waste my time by composing, using my LOGOS only in the final stage when I enforce myself to analyse some infinitesimal effects :-)

Vitaly, you should participate at WCSC, your NOOS will solve everything in no time, while the poor LOGOS of the other solvers wastes time on infinitesimal effects, before perceiving the harmony that creates the solution.

This means that LOGOS makes a decision what is a harmony. My view is opposite: NOOS makes such a decision that means Yes! It could and it is! NOOS percepts the true whole picture, LOGOS is just helping to understand the subtle distinctions including infinitesimal effects :-(
