IMO the original problem is better. The "bad" twin is a little price to show a nice echo. Nikola's version has no twin but the solutions are symmetrical.

I too think that twinning spoils the effect in No.186. Nikolas scheme is a good suggestion for improvement.

Well, the scheme is for cosidering. What is echo and what is symmetry, that's also for considering as well as what is a fine working mechanism. Does echo-chameleon play with reciprocal functions make a banal symmetry? Banal symmetry is when the same piece acts in the same way in symmetrical directions. Even banal symmetry is OK if it enables a most economical mechanism. I think that an idea should be presented through a most economical and natural mechanism. Chess "naturally" offers many symmetries, avoiding them is unnatural:)

I don't see any particular improvement in this version. Rather, in the original position the effect echo is more pronounced, while in this version there is too symmetry. However thanks for the suggestion.

Yes it's nice, unfortunately the twinning spoils the impression a lot. Additional wPb2 would give both solutions without twinning but wBc7 would then be superfluous. A mechanism of reciprocal mate/guard by wB's is thus not good and natural. Here's a scheme for considering: White Bb8 Bg8 Kb5 Pd5 Pe5 Pg4 Pd2 Pe2 Black Kd7 Bd4 Be4 Pf4 Stipulation ser-H#6
